Updating Your Home's Electric to Increase Power Capacity

As the average household adopts more and more electronics and appliances, the need for a higher electrical capacity grows. More and more homeowners are finding that their home's electric is not built to handle the amount of electricity they need to use. The best, and safest, solution to this issue is upgrading the electric service. This includes three major parts: the mast and weather head, which are on the outside of the house and connect the power line to the electric meter, the electric meter, and the electric panel which takes the power from the meter and distributes it throughout the house. We'll discuss each area individually below, but for a full upgrade, all of these components are replaced. The most common residential upgrade is from a 100 amp to a 200 amp service.

Electric Panel Upgrade

Upgrading the Breaker Panel

Occasionally, we find homes that have fuses or push-matic breaker systems. Homeowners looking to upgrade to a standard breaker system will usually only need to schedule a panel upgrade. We'll make sure the panel and circuits are compatible, and circuits are tied to breakers in the panel without being overloaded.

You'll have improved access to constant power and safe, easy ways to turn off circuits as needed. Need to schedule a consultation? Call our office!

Weather Head & Mast Repair Services

Outside Electrical Repairs for Damaged Parts

The external portion of your home's electrical service has a mast, which runs up the side of the house, and the weather head, which is there the main power line connects to the home. The weather head is where the electric company's responsibility ends and the homeowner's begins. These two parts can be damaged in storms or pulled off the home with excessive force. The external electrical components will need to be repaired or replaced when damage like this occurs.

Electric Service Meter

Electric Meter Inspection and Replacement Services

When it comes to the electric meter, you may experience a few issues. The first is noticing high electric bills when your energy usage has not changed. This may be due to the meter or an appliance in your home going bad. The second issue is if the meter is damaged in some way, in which case it is typically able to be repaired or replaced without much headache. The third issue is if the electric company has locked the meter for some reason. Greene's electricians can assist with the first two issues, but we recommend contacting your electric company for any of these issues prior to contacting us. In the event your meter needs replaced, we'd be happy to help!
